3 Storytelling Strategies to Capture User Attention

Think about the class teacher, if his/her way of teaching is boring then it becomes hard for students to get knowledge. Same is the case in eLearning, if an eLearning course starting with just simple course introduction and an overview of the concepts that are going to display in the course, and some points that normally called the course contents or objectives. It may or may not be the way to encourage your learners to engage with your courses. It is quite hard to promote and convey your objectives to the end user through traditional learning way. Just ask a question from yourself. Do learners remember details from a particular course? Definitely not, but they remember the objective of the course or simply you can say that they remember the core concept.

Modern storytelling is often based on movies, books, video games, cartoon characters and comic book. These things are added normally for the effective strategies for capturing their end learner’s attention. So normal way or traditional way is not enough to encourage end users to learn things from your course. Here are 3 storytelling principles that can be apply to learning contents and capture the end users attention.

1# Offer Interesting Problem

Use the most interesting and accurate way to grab attention of end user. Evolves them completely in your offered courses. Provide challenges in the course, add quizzes and other such data. Use only relevant problems to eLearning contents that are immediately relevant to learners. Evolves end users by asking questions like:

  • What kind of mistakes do people make?
  • What are the restrictions do you deal with?
  • What are the difficult aspects of this task?

2# Give Enough Details

Details are important in eLearning contents, but keep in mind that your details should be only relevant not those which are distracted and out of course. Give complete feedback after completing a specific task. Like if end user complete course you should display a detailed message by displaying a positive message by encouraging him/her. Remember this is the most important thing in the course and you have to keep in mind its importance by paying attention to this section. For this, you can add some external links as well as infographic contents which will increase productivity of end users.

3# Start with Simplest

Keep in mind that your flow of content is important and you have to keep in mind all these things before designing and developing an eLearning course. First show simple data then go ahead to show action to the users as the course goes ahead. This will create a suspense for learner and he/she will discover what is in the course. Provide relevant content rather than providing unwanted stuff.
